Stump grinding in Geelong
Stumps ground below the surface so the ground can be turfed or planted, or left in place where that suits the garden better.

What goes into a stump job
An old stump in the lawn and one left by a tree that came down last week are quoted the same way: on what is around it and what is under it.
What is in the ground
Rock, old concrete and buried pipes and cables near a stump change how it is ground, so they are looked for on the visit.
Surface roots
Roots running out across the lawn can be ground out with the stump or left, and the quote says which.
The grindings
A stump turns into a pile of chips and soil bigger than you would expect. It can be raked back into the hole, spread as mulch or taken away.
How it works
From the first call to a clear garden
Nothing happens without a written quote you have agreed to.
Tell us about the tree
Call or send the form with the tree and what is worrying you.
A contractor comes to see it
A local tree contractor looks at the tree, the access and whatever sits underneath it, because a quote off a photo misses the things that change the job.
A written quote
The quote sets out the scope, what happens to the timber and the stump, and the date. It is the contractor's quote, and nothing starts until you accept it.
The work and the clean up
On the day the tree is dealt with as quoted, the green waste leaves on the truck and the lawn is raked.
Stump questions
Roots, replanting and leaving it be
Does grinding get rid of the roots?
It takes out the stump and the roots right under it. The rest stay in the ground and break down over time.
Can a new tree go in the same spot?
It can, once the stump is ground deeper and the grindings are dug out and replaced with soil, although a spot a little to one side is often easier because the old roots are not in the way.
Is it better to leave the stump?
Sometimes. A stump in a garden bed can be left to break down, and some people keep one as a seat or a stand for a pot. In a lawn it usually just gets in the way of the mower.
