In the Kardinia Heritage Area, the houses fronting Seaview Parade, Riverview Terrace and Kardinia Street sit in an unusual terraced layout following the contours of the land. Terraced blocks limit where an elevated platform or a chipper can set up, so trees there are often climbed, and the timber is lowered by rope and carried or winched out to a lane or the street.
The same heritage citation names the flowering gum trees in Riverview Terrace, Collins Street and Seaview Parade as part of what makes the area significant. Where they stand on the nature strip they are council trees, so cutting one back from a roof or a driveway is a request to the council, and private work beside them protects their roots and canopy.
Seaview Park holds a limestone grassland, a plant community known from only five sites in Victoria, four of them in Geelong, on limestone laid down when the sea was higher and the Barwon Valley was coastal. Where rock sits close to the surface a stump grinder can strike it, so how deep a stump can go is checked on the visit.

The heritage record for the Belmont Heights Neighbourhood Park, on Regent and Amundsen Streets, lists silky oaks, pines, cypresses, palms and a pepper tree, and a Moonah it calls the last stand of this type of tree that once grew naturally in Belmont. Limbs over a fence from the park are raised with the council, and work on your side is planned around their roots.
