A hedge is quoted on its height, its length and what is on the other side of it.
Height and reach
A hedge you can reach from the ground is a different job from one taller than the house. Tall hedges need a tripod ladder or an elevated platform, and firm, level ground to stand it on.
Both sides
A boundary hedge is trimmed from both sides, so the neighbour's side needs a way in. If it has none, the quote says the hedge is done from your side only.
The clippings
Hedge clippings fill a trailer faster than you would expect. They can be mulched on site, spread on the garden beds or taken away.

Cutting back hard and keeping the path clear
Can an overgrown hedge be cut back hard?
Many can. Lilly pilly, photinia and pittosporum usually reshoot from bare stems after a hard cut, although they look thin for a season. Most conifers, cypress among them, do not grow back from old bare wood, so they are brought back a little at a time instead.
Does the council have rules about hedges over the footpath?
In the City of Greater Geelong, yes. Private plants have to be kept clear to a set height over footpaths, nature strips and laneways, and can reach only a short way past the fence line.
Can the clippings be left in a pile?
Not over summer if it can be helped. City of Greater Geelong lists a pile of tree branch cuttings as a possible fire hazard, so clippings are better mulched or taken away than left in a heap.
